Maple Syrup Pictorial

Just a few pictures from last years tapping. We use tubing and 5 gallon buckets to collect and transport the sap. Usually two or three taps are put each tree since the trees are very large. The taps are joined and the sap runs to the collection bucket using a single line. Each bucket has several lines running to accommodate more than one tree, this means about 4 to 9 taps are emptying in to each collection bucket. The sap is poured into spare 5 gallon buckets to transport to the house where it is stored in totes dug into the snow. When enough sap is obtained to boil down, the burner is fired up and boiling is started.
